Meet John
(The Baker)
Without any formal training Little Baker Baker has been creaming, mixing, kneading, and decorating bakes for family, friends, and clients for the last five years.
My baking story began, not with an oven, but with a marathon. I was training for the New York City Marathon - it was my 20 mile day - and I had a very strong craving for the famous Milk Bar Cereal Milk Cake. When I say strong craving, I mean I wanted this cake at all costs. Unfortunately, Milk Bar was closed, and I was dragging myself through the door to my Brooklyn apartment. The next day, on wobbly legs, I decided to take a stab at making it myself… I had a bag of Lucky Charms in the pantry anyway! I put on my favorite Tori Amos album, and got to work.
Baker Baker…
That first cake, while delicious, was not the most beautiful bake I’ve ever made, but it was enough to strike a spark in me to bake again. The following weekend it was another twenty miles, another Tori Amos album, and another cake…
And another…
And another…
And another.
The cakes took on the themes of the Tori Amos albums I used for my baking soundtrack, becoming more elaborate and intricate as my confidence and skill grew. Cakes transformed into pastries, which transformed into breads until my bakes encompassed simple yeasted breads to complex, multi-tiered cakes.
My roots are southern, my limbs are New York, and baking has fostered a connection between the two. It has been my pleasure to share the joy of baking with my husband, family, friends, neighbors, clients, and, now, my son.
